Cherokee residents looking for the latest fashion trends head over to Val’s Happy Shack, which, like its name indicates, has a reputation for being a fun and friendly place to shop. Owner Valorie Duckworth is as vibrant as many of the items she sells, and her passion for her work shines through. “We care about our customers,” said Duckworth. “The fact that they choose to come to my store is an honor. I don’t take it for granted and I think that shows in the things we do.” The store sells a variety of attire from casual T-shirts and jeans to funky tops and dresses. The store carries a limited number of each item, so customers can create their own unique look. Need some trendy accessories to go with your new outfit??Val’s supports local artists by selling handcrafted jewelry, many of which are one of a kind designs. “We’re a fun, hip and trendy store that caters to women from ages 30s to 60s. We have stuff that’s comfortable, looks good and will fit every body type,” said Duckworth. In addition to a great selection of clothing, what makes Val’s No. 1 is the personal, one-on-one service the shop offers. The business also specializes in home parties, in which they bring a selection of clothing to a client’s home, and she and her friends can try on the clothes and make purchases. Duckworth also acts as a personal shopper and drops off clothes at clients’ homes to allow them to try them on in the comfort of their own home. “If you need something, I’ve got your back,” said Duckworth. The store recently relocated and can now be found inside Uptown Hair.
